New Music Video: G-Side

Unless we're talking Shabazz Palaces or cLOUDDEAD, psychedelia and hip-hop don't seem to be natural partners. Kid Cudi may rap about smoking a ton of weed, but we would never really characterize his music as truly psychedelic. Well, leave it to a small-time hip-hop crew from Alabama to incorporate some subtle but wicked swirling guitars and ethereal waves into a smart and knife-sharp rap tune to create a modern otherworldly number. G-Side, a Huntsville-based duo consisting of Stephen "ST 2 Lettaz" Harris and David "Yung Clova" Williams, are scratching that experimental rap itch that My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy left behind.

This new music video for an older track, "Gettin' It" from their last album, Islands, features guest work from rapper Stalley and singer Join Tiffany. The music video is sort of boring and doens't capture the energy and spaciness of the song's production values (which are truly impressive), but if you haven't heard of this crew yet, check out this track. It's got more substance and style than anything you're probably hearing on mainstream rap radio.
