Carly Rae Jepsen
understands the power of collaboration. On Emotion
she worked with famed producers Max Martin, Ariel Rechtshaid, and Shellback as well as fellow artists like Sia
, Devonte Hynes (Blood Orange)
, and Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend
. This openness to other artists made her album a complete thought and widely acclaimed. We love Carly and we love Lil Yachty
, so why not throw them together onto the same track?
Target did just that and assembled a dream team for their new ad campaign. Carly Rae, Lil Yachty, and producer Mike Will Made It joined forces to cover "It Takes Two" by Rob Base and DJ E-Z, one of the most famous Hip-Hop singles of all time. The video was then directed by Roman Coppola (Moonrise Kingdom, Mozart In The Jungle) and the choreography directed by La La Land's
Mandy Moore. According to an interview with EW,
Carly Rae Jepsen even adds a verse of her own to the track, although she's hesitant to call it "rap."
We only have 30 second of the song so far, so we can't wait for the full version to drop this Friday or wait for the ad to play on Sunday during the Grammy's. So if you need something to hold you off as well, this collab from last year with Blood Orange has given us faith that CRJ can pull anything off. [Ed's Note: How HOT is Carly's new look?! We're in love.]
