It seems that in between winning Grammys and taking the music world by storm, Portugal. The Man
like to embrace their freaky side a little bit.
"Keep On" wasn't a single from the band's 2017 Woodstock
, but it definitely doesn't play second fiddle to award-winning tracks like "Feel It Still". And while the music video for "Feel It Stick" drew the attention and ire of far-right nut jobs and sour grapes alike, today's new video for "Keep On" will certainly take the cake for provocativeness.
Before I go much further, I should probably note that this video is a bit NSFW. It's not entirely raunchy, but also probably not something you want your boss catching a glimpse of as he's peeking over your shoulder, as bosses do. The video comes courtesy of comic and multi-disciplinary artist Paulin Rouges who uses sleek 3D animations to craft a story about self-love and acceptance. Well, that's at least what the artist says. What we're presented with is a technicolor trip with BDSM stylings that will certainly appease to a crowd with a taste for latex body suits. There's a couple of other unmentionable moments designed if at the least to shock, but also to explore notions of sexuality and self.
If you can still your nervous laughter while watching the video, you'll find it is a pretty remarkable exploration of new mediums and stylings, pushing the bounds of what we're accustomed to seeing and experiencing with music videos. Maybe Portugal. The Man has some pretty exotic tastes, but it's also clear they're comfortable with themselves and their art.
