Music Makes Movies: The 10 Best Scenes

What exactly makes a movie scene memorable? In our opinion, it's the song. With both The Grammys and Oscars right around the corner, we decided to highlight our 10 favorite musical moments in film.

Our rules in selecting the following list: No musicals, no scores, and NO Cusacks.

We understand there's a myriad of deserving scenes, but these are our favorites - meaning they're the best. Any grievances are to be aired in the comments below.

    The Movie: Rushmore
The Song: "A Quick One While He's Away" by The Who
The Scene: Wes Anderson has become well known for his use of classic pop tunes. In this scene, Max Fischer (Schwartzman) and Herman Blume (Murray) wage war over the heart of a certain soft-spoken teacher. Anderson's signature slow-motion of 16-year-old Max in the elevator smoking a cigarette with The Who blaring will forever be embedded in my memory as one of the most badass scenes I've ever seen.

The Movie: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Song: "Mr. Blue Sky" by Electric Light Orchestra
The Scene: "Mr. Blue Sky" was used primarily in the film's trailer. ELO's Jeffrey Lynn is renowned for his intricate masterpieces, which beautifully matched the complexity of Eternal Sunshine's plot.

    The Movie: Almost Famous
The Song: "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John
The Scene: Cameron Crowe made a 40-year-old song a modern sing-a-long.

    The Movie: Office Space
The Song: "Still" by Geto Boys
The Scene: Mike Judge gave his film a killer soundtrack saturated by Geto Boys (and thankfully, nothing by the no-talent ass clown Michael Bolton). In the scene, the boys from Inotech give a fax machine a beat-down worthy of The Wire.

    The Movie: American Psycho
The Song: "Hip To Be Square" by Huey Lewis and the News
The Scene: The only thing Bret Easton-Ellis' most sinister book was missing was a crazy face to dance to the 80s classics. In comes Christian Bale with an axe and parka. (NSFW)

The Movie: Shaun of the Dead
The Song: "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen
The Scene: Nothing says bloody, brain-eating bar fight like Freddy Mercury's most glittery jumpsuit.

    The Movie: Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
The Song: "Tequila" by The Champs
The Scene: Weddings haven't been the same since...

    The Movie: Wayne's World
The Song: "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen
The Scene: Try driving to this song without headbanging - I dare you.

The Movie: Ferris Bueller's Day Off
The Song: "Twist and Shout" by The Beatles
The Scene: Guys want to be him, girls want to be on him, and he's a nerd - totally groundbreaking for the 80s.

    The Movie:Reservoir Dogs
The Song: "Stuck In The Middle With You" by Stealers Wheel
The Scene: Like American Psycho, there's something strangely appealing about the combination of upbeat tunes and brutal murder.
