One of the most refreshing things about Australian pop star Gotye
and his debut album, Making Mirrors
, is the simmering darkness waiting right behind his catchy pop facade. Whether it's the subtle anger on "Somebody That I Used to Know" or the feelings of betrayal on "Smoke and Mirrors," Gotye obviously isn't as cheery as his lilting melodies suggested. The newly released music video for Making Mirrors
' standout "Easy Way Out" takes the darkness to heights that may not have even been present in the original song. Using stop-motion animation and an increasingly morbid take on the rat race, Gotye may have another YouTube sensation on his hands.
