The other day I had a text conversation with my mom about Madonna. It might have had something to do with the egregious choice of our lady of pop as a performer at a popular sporting event. It went something like this:

Mom: "You have to admit Madonna's still got it!"

    Me: "No I don't."

Don't get me wrong, Madonna looks great! She's an amazing artist who has contributed unbelievable amounts of things to popular culture! But what we're witnessing here is akin to The Rolling Stones trying to write new material like they were Maroon 5 (WHY WOULD THEY??), or any other artist who has grown out of their own prominent decade and are trying to assimilate to a new (and in Madonna's case, shallower) mode of creation. This synth-y remix fodder is anything but helping Madonna's legacy. Gaga and Katy Perry owe her so much, and neither will ever live up to her, so we're not so sure why she is trying to compete with them now. Nonetheless, here's her new single. I don't hate it, but I do hate that Madonna's choice of "fire" is very much in line with the tofu-garbage we're currently being subjected to in the pop-sphere. Does anyone else think this sounds like one of those trashy Real Housewives singles? The writing is fine, but something is wrong.

    MDNA is out 3/26.
