Recap: The Oscars In Music

Last night was the 84th annual Academy Awards, and while the biggest music night of the year was a couple of weeks ago with the Grammy Awards, but there was still some notable music news to come out of this year's Oscar ceremony that we wanted to share. With his big win last year for The Social Network, we thought Trent Reznor and Atticus Finch could be possibly shoo-ins for this year's Best Original Score thanks to their fantastic work on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but they weren't even nominated this year, and the award went to Ludovic Bource for the silent-film (and Best Picture winner) The Artist.

Bret McKenzie, one half of New Zealand's fourth most popular folk-parody duo Flight of the Conchords, took home the Best Original Song Oscar for his existentialist ode "Man or Muppet" from this year's The Muppets. While we lament the missed opportunity for Jemaine Clement to join Bret on stage for an impromptu rendition of "Business Time", it was great to see Bret McKenzie win an Oscar only a couple of years after singing ditties like "Sugar Lumps" and "Bowies in Space" even if he was only up against one other song for the award this year.
