It's not too often that I fall completely head over heels in love with a song within its first 20 seconds, but Jessie Reyez
's "Shutter Island" turned out to be a rare exception. Reyez's vocal delivery is so authentic - she's not just singing "my straight jacket's custom made though,"
she's actually feeling it, living it. It feels like her voice is crackling up close, directly into our ears as she slowly goes more and more insane. And the video for it is pretty haunting as well, as we see her eventually becoming lifelessly trapped in a water tank, depicting the suffocating relationship she's in and how it has drained her. Many women are called crazy, but no one embraces it quite like this.
