Following the most bizarre whirlwind musical romance in recent memory, a Car Seat Headrest cover of Smash Mouth is finally out there in the big, bad world. The seed was planted way back in 2016 when Smash Mouth took to Twitter to express their love for Car Seat Headrest's track "Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales" from their breakout album Teens of Denial. Thus followed a brief, amiable interaction with Will Toledo online. From these humble beginnings, a beautiful artistic relationship would soon blossom.

Just last month, a fan tweeted their suggestion for a collaboration between the two. Smash Mouth confirmed that they would be game, Car Seat Headrest gave a resounding yes - It was on.

With no qualms about rushing into this relationship head first, Smash Mouth were the first to produce the goods - a cover of "Something Soon" which arrived just last week.

Smash Mouth may be a living, breathing meme of a band at this point in their career, but it's a surprisingly decent cover of the track, which is taken from their 2015 release Teens of Style.

Now, a week later, though we have yet to receive a full-length collaborative LP (fingers crossed), Toledo and co. have responded in kind. They've taken "Fallen Horses", a lesser-known track from 1999's Astro Lounge, and shaped it into a lo-fi indie-rock jam. Surely this is just the beginning of something truly beautiful.
