Meet Glassnote's latest roster pick, Daughter
, made up of singer Elena Tonra and guitarist Igor Haefeli. The British Folk duo doesn't hide anything in their music, with each song made up of sparse ingredients and intimate lyrics. Tonra's naked voice sits closely to your ear and Haefeli's echoing fingerpicking on guitar is reminiscent of Bon Iver's quieter moments.
Thusfar, Daughter has released two EPs, His Young Heart
and The Wild Youth
via Communion Music
. They join other rising British artists on Communion, which was co-founded by Ben Lovett of Mumford and Sons, such as Michael Kiwanuka, Monument Valley and Matthew And The Atlas. Today they officially announced their signing to Glassnote, where now they'll be label mates with Ben as well.
Daughter shows its potential on both of their 2011 releases. Some of the stand out tracks are "Candles," which shows the band's ability to create Florence & The Machine-like anthems, and "Medicine," which proves that they are not bound to traditional Folk standards.
