Following the life of celebrity is fun, exciting and interesting if you're a fan. Who they are, where they came from and how they reached the heights of fame can be fascinating and inspirational, but they didn't all do it on their own. Behind every famous face are parents who raised them and likely taught them to never give up on their dreams.

Some stars followed in their parents musical footsteps and stole the spotlight, while others shocked everyone with talent and charisma that seemed to come out of no where. Get to know these 15 celebrity parents below.

    1. Katy Perry
Are you a fan of Katy Perry? Well, her parents aren't. Her father is a preacher, and has asked his congregation to pray for his daughter.

    2. Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber has a reputation as a trouble-maker, and we know where he gets it from: His dad, Jeremy Bieber, who has been accused of things such as trashing apartments, throwing his dog out the window, and using his son to pay rent.

    3. Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran credits his parents with his foray into music, by buying him a guitar instead of letting him watch TV or play video games. Thanks, Mr. and Mrs. Sheeran!

    4. Charli XCX
Charli XCX might have the coolest mom and dad on this list- they took her to her first rave, and ended up staying to party with their daughter. Don't you wish you had a family like that? Check out the adorable photo of a young Charli with her dad below:

    5. Hozier
Many artists have musical backgrounds, and Hozier is one of them. His father was a blues musician, and his mother paints album artwork for her son.

    6. Iggy Azalea
Speaking of artistic parents, let's talk about Iggy Azalea's. But maybe not too loudly- her father writes NSFW children's books, with a lot of curse words you wouldn't want your kids to hear. Below is a photo of the rapper with her mother in her younger years:

    7. St. Vincent
Nothing says encouragement like sending your daughter on tour with her uncle to show her what life is like as a musician on the road. That's what the parents of Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, did.

    8. Beck
He just won a grammy, and that talent may be genetic. His father, David Campell, was in a 90's punk group and is an arranger, composer and conductor who has been involved in projects with Carole King and Evanescence, and worked on the film Brokeback Mountain.

    9. Weezer
Rivers Cuomo's father played drums with Wayne Shorter, and their relationship also inspired Weezer's 2014 album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End.

    10. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is such a fan of her dad, she gives him half of her income. My parents always joked about making me repay them for the food and shelter they provided me in my youth. I guess some kids do it when they grow up, assuming they've become successful musicians.

    11. Miley Cyrus
Billy Ray Cyrus recorded the chart-topping single "Achy Breaky Heart" long before Hannah Montana took over the spotlight, although his career involved much less crotch-grabbing and tongue-showing than his daughter Miley's.

    12. Taylor Swift
Another artist with parents to be thankful for is Taylor Swift, whose mom and dad moved their family to Nashville to help their daughter get into the country music industry. It's debatable if they're that nice to anyone else, though.

    13. Nas
Like Rivers Cuomo, Nas has a musician father. Olu Dara is a renowned multi-instrumentalist, and though his son is a rapper, Dara sticks to jazz. The two definitely have style, and even appeared in a Gap ad together.

    14. LMFAO
Berry Gordy is the founder of the famous Motown record label, and also the father of LMFAO's RedFoo.

    15. Justin Townes Earle
He might not have had the happiest childhood- Justin Townes Earle named his latest album Absent Fathers- but the singer-songwriter did tour with his famous dad as a teenager.
