It's about a month til the release of Zayn Malik's debut solo album,Mind of Mine, and we're starting to see why Zayn's vocals weren't on full-display whilst in One Direction. He plans to release Mind of Mine on the one year anniversary since he left the pop boy band and a few weeks ago, he released his first single from the album, "Pillowtalk." The track (somehow) skyrocketed to the #1 spot all over the world and it looks like leaving the band to prove he isn't a tween sensation is working out for him so far.
Last night on The Tonight Show, Zayn surprised his fans by debuting another single called "It's You," instead of his planned performance for "Pillowtalk," causing girls all over the world to swoon like the eye-heart emoji. But let's be real, this one isn't great either. The song is an intimate, slowed-down, R&B vibe that showcases his falsetto sound - but in a whiny, incomprehensible way. It was a dramatically-lit performance as he was backed by The Roots and sang the track's title over and over in long, drawn-out, high vocals. Zayn needs to add a little risk to the rest of his album so he doesn't put everyone to sleep, giving the word "pillowtalk" a different meaning.
