Today we have the exclusive premiere of ONR.
's new single, "AMERICAN GODS." The track is the Scottish artist's ode to America, which he expanded on for Baeble, "America is a place that's been so important in my life; I've spent a lot of time there, back and forth, since leaving school, and for some reason, the events in my life keep drawing me back there."
"'American Gods' is partly a love letter for a past America that, as a European kid of the 90s, had such an overwhelming cultural impact on me and my generation. It's difficult to overemphasize just how huge that was, how the world had these towering figures and symbols of modern American society beamed directly in to us."
"It's not sycophantic or blunt; I've tried not to make overly obvious judgements on the benefits or damage of that cultural impact, other than to consider how it results in this cultivation of celebrity culture. I like the idea of 'modern Gods' - touchable, relatable and on Instagram."
The powerful anthem is extremely infectious upon first listen. With drum machines and tons of synths, it's sonically inspired by the 80s, which fits ONR.'s passionate voice perfectly. No matter what country you're from, "AMERICAN GODS" is going to resonate, and it's undoubtedly going to make you feel something. The artist is currently working on new music with big time producers Mark Crew (Bastille, Rag & Bone Man), Doc McKinney (The Weeknd) and mixer Spike Stent (Massive Attack, Frank Ocean), so we're excited to see what he delivers next.
The track will be available everywhere tomorrow, February 16th, but you can listen to it now ahead of its release along with its accompanying video above.
