Adele is a Role Model, Her Acceptance Speeches at Last Night's Grammys Prove It

The Grammys, by nature, can be pretty competitive. "Who's going to win Album of the Year?" "Oh, no that other artist was so much more deserving of that award!" This is the reason why you end up with Kanye interrupting Taylor on stage, and Macklemore feeling bad about winning Best Rap Album in 2014 over Kendrick Lamar.

We take the Grammys very seriously, for whatever reason. And although the award show isn't pushing any new boundaries and always picking the safe choice, there are always people watching. That makes it much more important to be a decent person, and not arrogant winner.

This is why Adele's acceptance speeches last night were wonderful. Take note, ladies.

She won all the awards that she was nominated for last night. When she went up to accept her awards for Album of the Year and Record of the Year though, she didn't spout about how the world was against her or try to make a message that had good intentions, but ultimately came off as passive-aggressive and bitter:

Instead, she dedicated part of her speech to bring Beyonce up, saying, "The Lemonade album was so monumental and so well thought out" and "You are our light," pretty much saying that she deserved the award as well. She was mature about it though, graciously accepting the award from the Grammy committee afterwards, and even split the award, giving half to Beyonce. In fact, when she had her interview later, she was graciously saying hello to everybody, and just gives off an air of genuineness.

She responded to it the best way that she could, especially since most of the audience that was watching her was in the older demographic. If she had just freaked out responded with an angry speech, then she would've just have been written off as childish. She didn't do that though, and she is honestly, an honest, and beautifully genuine role model. We don't need to form squads and isolate each other. We don't need to turn each other down. We need to help each other and cheer each other on.

There is nothing wrong with competition, but it doesn't mean that you can't bring the people who also doing great things up with you.
