I hadn't taken over as Baeble's managing editor in January of last year (I wouldn't start til March) so there were some high profile records from last year that I missed. Apparently one of those records was Mark Ronson's album, Uptown Special. Obviously, I heard "Uptown Funk" (cause how could you avoid his Bruno Mars megahit) but I never listened to the whole record and only just today discovered that one of my favorite novelists, Michael Chabon (The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay which I highly recommend you read if you've never had the chance. It's got superheroes, Nazis, coming of age insight, and more), wrote the lyrics for the record. And I also had no idea that Tame Impala's Kevin Parker sang on the album.
Mark Ronson just released the music video for two of the album's Kevin Parker collabs, "Summer Breaking" and "Daffodils" which are combined into one video experience. It's pretty basic stuff...beach, summer, good vibes. But considering it's lightly snowing here in New York City today and I feel like my head is being squeezed together by the trash compactor in Star Wars: A New Hope so that my eyes want to pop out my skull, I'm pretty sure we could all use summer vibes. It's nice to hear what Kevin Parker's voice sounds like outside of the context of Tame Impala though. Maybe we can get him doing more unexpected collaborations in the future considering the band's massive rise as one of indie's most beloved rock bands.
