are gearing up to head out on a little mini-tour for the month of February and they've just dropped a new collaboration with Blood Orange
(a.k.a Dev Hynes) to celebrate. The track is called "Picturesong", a term the duo coined "to explore what we create in each other when we want to feel deep love because of loneliness or otherwise". It's a hazy, harmony-driven exploration of the blurred lines between reality and delusion, as well as the manner in which we project our internal desires onto others.
Hynes contributed keyboard, guitar, vocals and mixing to the track, adding his voice to Girlpool's already potent harmonies, which he referred to as "some of my favorites that are out there". The production on the drums is almost akin to a smooth hip-hop beat and the moments in the song where the trio come together to harmonize really draw you into a dreamy soundscape. "Picturesong" is a slow builder that gently edges its way toward an almost shoegaze-y conclusion, with sudden crackling distortion and atmospheric vocals on all sides.
Girlpool are playing nine dates around the country this coming month and if you're in NYC you can catch them in Brooklyn Steel on February 8th
, with support from Land of Talk and Forth Wanderers.
