Father John Misty's past work reeked of satire, but it looks like he's taking a different route with his upcoming album, Pure Comedy. We've heard three singles so far - the title track, "Two Wildly Different Perspectives," and now, "Ballad Of The Dying Man." The production is less muddy, there's more soul, and most importantly, FJM and his beliefs are more apparent than ever.

The melodies in this latest track are stunning - his best yet - from FJM's solo falsetto in the chorus to when the choir comes in for a chilling and wonderfully harmonized outro. There's less angst and more vulnerability, which you can hear as his croon softens throughout. This is the vulnerability we've been begging for.

From what we've heard thus far, it looks like this record is going to be a disheartening one, but perhaps the most authentic yet.
