"I got drunk and you got pissed" is one of the first lines from Diamond Rugs' cheerless and cutting Christmas tune "Christmas in a Chinese Restaurant." Diamond Rugs is an infantile super-group featuring (aside from a lot of liquor, the AV Club describes them as "drunk-punk") John McCauley and Robbie Crowell of Deer Tick, Ian Saint Pe of Black Lips, Steve Berlin of Los Lobos, Hardy Morris of Dead Confederate, and Bryan Dufresne of Six Finger Satellite. McCauley grabs the vocals and your heart from your chest when he describes "how they cut him off from alcohol". It would be funnier if he wasn't so damn lonely—someone invite this guy over for a Christmas meal!
Stay tuned for more from Diamond Rugs. Their first show will take place December 29th in Atlanta, GA with their debut album scheduled to drop sometime this spring via Partisan Records.
