"This Is Not A Song" is a strange title for a lead single for a new album, especially when the song is as well-crafted and fragile as this one. But this is a song, and a good one, from indie-rock outfit Islands, who have just announced that their next album, A Sleep And A Forgetting, will be released on Valentine's Day 2012.

The song is slow and moody. A clean guitar lays down sparse riffs, mainly sticking to accentuating chords on the main beat. Single, deep piano notes give the song a somewhat dark tone while the higher keys carry the tune to it's more uplifting chorus. Singer Nick Thornborn's delicate delivery, with the lush harmonies of the chorus, helps deliver the song's message. "If this is not a song/why do I find it so hard to move on?" he sings. We can't tell you the answer to that, but if this is not a song, we can't wait to hear what he thinks is. Check it out below.

The band has also announced the track listing for A Sleep And A Forgetting.
