Four years since their last studio album, Sun Airway
is back with a new single and an upcoming album. The Philly electro-pop/indie band first burst on the scene in 2010, when two ex-members of the popular college rock band the A-Sides released their debut album Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier, to great acclaim. The album was noted for being ahead of its time in its blending of synthpop, electronic, and indie sounds. Their next release, Soft Fall, in 2012, garnered similar critical popularity, but shortly after the group disbanded, only reemerging to release some remixes and covers. Now, four years later, the group has reemerged with the track FOAM, a triumphant, dreamlike track.
The song features the sampled and electronic synth sounds of electropop as well as the indie influenced drums, guitars, and vocals. The combination is an ethereal piece that creates an airy, intangible atmosphere, all while it builds to almost festive crescendos in the last half. Its in the vein of their more produced and softer releases, but a welcome addition to those ranks. The song also comes with the promise of an upcoming album, titled Heraldic Black Cherry, with an unknown release date. For a group that has taken a four year hiatus, no rust can be witnessed on this first release, and their music was ahead of its time in a way that even though this latest track is no major digression from their original style, it fits right into todays musical landscape.
