If you've ever listened to Tapestry (or the Gilmore Girls theme song), you know the indelible imprint that folk singer-songwriter Carole King left on the American musical imagination. Seriously, Tapestry stayed on the Billboard album charts for over six years. If you don't understand why that's an insane feat, go look at the average length a record spends on that list. I promise it isn't anywhere close to that long.
And the songstress was given full honors at the Kennedy Center weeks ago (though it finally aired on TV last night) for her contribution to American music. A host of beloved performers took the stage to perform in her honor including Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, Janella Monae, and Sara Bareilles. Watch a selection of the performances below.
