Ty Segall's Live Album Is Shaping Up Nicely

I can't imagine why you'd get impatient for a Ty Segall release -- the man's consistently put out at least an album a year, in addition to slews of singles, compilations and collaborations so it's like you never have to stop listening if you don't want to!-- but if you're really jonesing for the release of his next album (Live In San Francisco, due out January 26th) he's been generous enough to offer a little listen with this live version of "Feel."

Gotta say, where most live version of songs feel unnecessary this take on "Feel" is essential. All of the reverb they've added lends the song a real weight; it sounds alive, like something with presence, as opposed to the album cut which was so engineered it might have been coming out of thin air. There's also a playful bit of fooling around in the middle that gives Segall's distorted shenanigans a much-needed dose of fun because what's garage rock without a little bit of mischief?
