has gained herself yet another fan. I had no idea what I was in for when I entered Terminal 5 on Wednesday night. I liked the KT songs I knew (the ones that everyone knows), but I had never before seen or heard anything she did, live.
She joked that her mainstream hits were popular with the 'Jazzercise' crowd, but the audience fully embraced the pop-driven beats of "Hold On," "Black Horse and a Cherry Tree" and "Suddenly I See" with open arms. KT thanked the audience for supporting music in tough economic times and closed her high energy set with "Fade Like A Shadow" from the "Tiger Suit" album. She returned for an Encore with a cover of Erasure's "A Little Respect" which was my personal highlight of the night. I love a good 80's dance cover...who doesn't?
She was witty and endearing; the epitome of a rock chick, with sick pipes and ridiculous live looping skills. She hopped from guitar to keys to drums and never missed a beat. I had heard that seeing her live was a completely different animal but that was obviously an understatement. She totally kicked a*s! If you like KT Tunstall even a little bit, go see her live. You'll LOVE her before you leave. KT told the audience that New York was "truly a magical place to play a gig," and while that is no doubt a true statement, on Wednesday night it was KT that was magical.-mindee anoff
