As the year speeds to a close, let's take a minute and look back on the new artists who made their mark. They made us cry, they made us dance, they made us laugh? They provided a soundtrack for the memories we made all the year through. We can't wait to see what they come up with in the future, and what other exciting acts 2015 will bring.
This indie pop group from Toronto, Canada, has that semi-sour 90's grunge vibe that really gets our blood pumping. Glad that they made their way onto the airwaves of the good ol' USA.
: Another international transport, this Scottish electronic pop group has an infectious sound that we can't get enough of, and their spritely lead singer Lauren Mayberry is utterly crushable.
: Their DIY sound, piercing vocals, and cool haircuts make Harmony Tividad and Cleo Tucker (are those their real names? Goddamn those are good names.) a pair to watch. The lyrics are poignant, the melodies are catchy, and there's something
: These guys have the look, sound, and confidence of a group that has been around forever. And, to be fair, they have been around for a little while; the group formed in 2010 in their home of Sydney Australia, but they didn't really make their way over here until this year.
: The ethereal, androgynous, catchy vocals of BøRNS coupled with undeniably fun, synth-heavy backdrop make his music oh so good.
6.Chance The Rapper
: This year the unsigned rapper from Chicago collaborated with such big names as Justin Bieber and James Blake. This energetic youngster has taken the reins of his own career, and he's definitely got some tricks up his sleeve.
: Hear haunting quivery voice and enchanting presence captivated us this year. FKA Twigs is truly an artist to expect strange and exciting things from.
: Those sad sad eyes. That quaffed hair. The heart-wrenching voice. Oh Sam, you've gotten us through some tough times.
: There's something about their sound which is all-consuming
Everywhere we turned this year it was Charli, Charli, Charli! But with her enviable style and intoxicating vocals, we can't really complain.
: These youngsters came out of nowhere and made monster hits out on nothing. So they're lyrics are the most complex or innovative, but their sound is addictive and they are cute as hell.
: R&B was bleeding for its next superstar Diva, and it looks like 2014 found a young so-and-so poised to fill that spot.
The sultry Banks surprised all of us with her Goddess
album this year (check out her cover of Aaliyah's Are You That Somebody?
if you haven't yet...),and goddess only knows what she'll come up with next.
: Getting props from the likes of super producer Mike WiLL Made It and Drake isn't too bad of a start. ILOVEMAKONNEN definitely made his mark in the club this year (even if he happened to do so at odd times and unconventional days of the week...)
