We're not just passionate observers of the music world we inhabit. We're also die-hard creators, conceiving, capturing, cutting, and delivering intimate musical moments and first-row encounters with our own original music video programming. 2014 was another busy year for team video here at Baeble. We were privy to many private get-togethers with some of our favorite new (ish) artists and invited behind the scenes to capture concerts at every angle. Every video we create, well, they're kind of like our babies. But like every proud parent, we have our favorites. Check out the 10 best Baeble-Made moments of the year below.
Remember. You can watch all of these on that nifty Amazon Fire, Roku, or SmartTV (Samsung, Vizio) you got for the holidays. Just download our free channel in your device's App Store.
Augustines You won't find a group of musicians who put more into their music than this trio. Having previously donated his voice to the show the night before, singer Billy McCarthy could only give us one take of "Nothing To Lose But Your Head" in this acoustic session filmed in Williamsburg Brooklyn. It's all they would need.
Catfish and The Bottlemen Few musicians enjoy being at the helm of a hyper-buzzy band (one that recently went to the top of the UK charts, by the way) as much as Catfish and The Bottlemen's Van McCann. In session he's a wild man. In conversation, extremely forthcoming. Get a little of both in this explosive video captured while the band was in town to play Governor's Ball last summer.
Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr Technically, we shot this whimsical bit of acoustic minimalism back in the Fall of '13. BUT! Our session with Josh and Dan from Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr was our first release of 2014, so totally appropriate here. Perched atop the roof of our West Village Townhouse, the duo dialed back the charismatic creativity of last year's kaleidoscopic The Speed of Things into a hypnotic tangle of matching black acoustic guitars and delicate falsettos.
Delta Spirit On a sticky July afternoon we caught up with Matt, Kelly, and Will from Delta Spirit in a beautifully dilapidated warehouse in Greenpoint BK. The session of songs from their most recent album Into The Wide is intense and powerful, as Matt belts out lines like, "May a love never break you/Keep your heart on your sleeve now/don't let anyone else tell you different". The man was channeling something.
Here We Go Magic The setting for our concert shoot with BK indie legends Here We Go Magic was spectacular. On a misty night perched at the end of a pier jetting out in the East River, the band offered wily keyboard lines, playful guitar licks, and general urban funkiness. This here band is the closest thing to The Talking Heads going.
Johnnyswim For Southern folk-rock duo Johnnyswim, it all starts with chemistry. Before ever settling into a session at our place, Amanda Sudano and Abner Ramirez seemed like the type of lovebirds who feel no shame in shouting their affection for one another from the rooftops. At the time, our own Tayi Sanusi declared, "It's like watching fireworks exploding into a force field of unbridled lust for life." Pretty much.
Polica Under a haze of red, blue, and violet shadows, the cacophonous force that is Polica brought the mystical world of their new album Shulamith together in this unique sound check session captured before the band's sold-out show at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn.
Lights It was a pretty big honor to be invited to capture Lights center-of-the-universe performance at Hard Rock Caf in Times Square. The event was a fundraiser for Pinktober; Hard Rock's campaign to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. In this beautiful video, Lights delights with a dazzling performance of songs from her electro-pop wonder of an album, Little Machines. The energy, the beaming smiles, this is an artist who should be every bit as big as Ellie Goulding.
Bear's Den Our 2nd encounter with British folk rock trio Bear's Den came on the heels of the release of their Communion-endorsed album, Islands. Captured in front of an intimate audience, the band trusted their listener with deeply personal stories of love and loss here. Try not to weep uncontrollably...we dare you!
Vance Joy In a studio visit with Vance Joy, the former professional footballer was kind enough to take our crew through a solo stroll of his global phenomenon, "Riptide"; an unlikely global hit. He also brushed off his newest single, "Mess Is Mine"; another little musical wonder from hsi recently released album, Dream Your Life Away.
