Baeble prides ourselves on the saying "Know Who's Next." That's why you see it everywhere on our site, and that's also why creating the list of breakthrough artists is extra fun for us. We cover all artists - because why limit ourselves - but our favorite artists are the exciting newcomers, and we met a lot of those this year. Artists like Katy Perry-signee CYN and 15 year old Billie Eilish all made a long lasting impression on us this year. Here are the 12 that are bound to blow up in 2018.
After signing to Katy Perry's very own label, Unsub Records, CYN
released a couple of awesome singles, the latest being "Only With You." It's such a catchy pop song that will make anyone fall in love at first listen. We sure did! And we fell even more in love when she came by our studio to talk to us for her first on-camera interview EVER
. CYN is going from her first on-camera ever to major stardom in 2018. We can sense it.
, full name Kathy Yaeji, is a new house music producer on the scene, and she's already gained tons of praise and respect from press. She released a bunch of music this year, the latest work being the EP2
, which features her major bangin' hit, "drink i'm sippin' on." However we're still waiting on a full-length from this exciting artist.
10. Sabrina Claudio
I was first introduced to Sabrina Claudio
with a low quality webcam video of her singing a song in her room. She made it out to be like she didn't care and that she kept messing up, yet she nailed it. She made it seem so effortless as her voice flew everywhere, and ever since then, I've been obsessed. Then I discovered her debut album which was released this year, entitled About Time.
On songs like "Belong To You" and "Stand Still," her seductive vocal is smokey enough to fog up the entire room.
9. A R I Z O N A
The crazy thing about A R I Z O N A
is how hard they work. They're a trio of boys from New Jersey who are constantly establishing connections with their fans, whether it be on social media or at live shows. They also released one of the catchiest songs of the year "Oceans Away" off of their debut album GALLERY
. It got over 122 million streams on Spotify too. 122 MILLION.
"Don't Kill My Vibe" was one of those songs that immediately caught the world's attention. It had us wondering who Sigrid was, and we were dying to hear more. Then when the Norwegian singer performed the song live as part of the Apple Music Up Next Series with James Corden and Zane Lowe, it was evident that she was born a star. She bounced around and her voice was nearly perfect -- she was a natural! And then she proved that she can keep the momentum with a few other singles. We want a debut album and we want it now.
7. Cigarettes After Sex
I won't lie, I was put off by the band name at first. However, that all quickly changed when I heard their smokey, romantic, and intimate indie rock music. They only released their self-titled debut album this year and we're already begging for more.
's self-titled debut album came out back in 2015, but it wasn't until the release of their sophomore record this year, Ash
, that people really started catching onto their gorgeous harmonies and tribal beats. Trust us on this, they're about to be huge.
5. Billie Eilish
Another singer with an a huge hit on their hands. "Bellyache" was one of the first songs we heard by Eilish
and we haven't been able to shake the bass drop it since. After that, Eilish - who is only 15 years old - released an excellent EP called dont look at me
. Most recently, she just released a straight up fire track
with Vince Staples
. Collaborating with Staples can only do wonders for your career.
We're a little bit obsessed with MUNA
(you can watch our Dive with them here
and our interview at Governors Ball with them here
). We're not the only ones who are obsessed though. MUNA is a queer trio who is making some of the best 80s-inspired, feel-good indie pop out there right now. They hit the festival circuit this past summer and are so much fun to watch live.
is another artist who just released their debut album this year. Entitled American Teen,
it features Frank Ocean-esque beats and Khalid's instantly recognizable croon. He's only 19 and has already collaborated with Lorde, Empress Of, and others. It looks like he's high in demand.
2. Julia Michaels
Speaking of high in demand, Julia Michaels
isn't exactly new to the music scene. She's written pretty much every one of your favorite pop songs for artists like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Hailee Steinfeld, Gwen Stefani, and more. However, this was a breakout year for her as a performer. She released her debut single "Issues" which made huge waves on the radio, and then followed up to it with her debut Nervous System
EP. She also just recently collaborated with Clean Bandit
for their hit single "I Miss You." Michaels sings about relatable things like self-destruction, anxiety, and relationships, but somehow manages to fit such complex topics in such simplified musical landscapes. She has a distinct voice and vision, and this is only the beginning for the unlikely pop star.
1. Cardi B
Everyone knows who Cardi B
is at this point. Her massive, massive, massive
track "Bodak Yellow" literally broke records. Billboard reported the rapper reached a new milestone when the single became the longest running Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a female solo rapper, surpassing Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)" in 1998. After that, Cardi B not only received praise from the press but from fellow musicians like Nicki Minaj and even Taylor Swift. She just released a new single "Bartier Cardi
," which proves that her album in 2018 will be good, despite her understandable hesitation.
