Single Serving Of Holiday Cheer: Field Report 'On Christmas Eve'

    Field Report, originally the solo project of Chris Porterfield, is yet another talented soft-folk project with darkened synth sensibility to emerge from the Wisconsin-based outfit DeYarmond Edison. Former bandmates include of Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), and noise-jazz opposite Megafaun. Much like the melancholy folk of Bon Iver, the band shares it's talent for darkly observational lyricism, often juxtaposing the distance of observation and the visceral reality of experience.

    "On Christmas Eve," is a ballad that paces through conflict to land on a note of uplifting normalcy. Built from the bones of a song Porterfield had though discarded, the song was re-born after a fan's chance suggestion: On our last tour, a guy came up after the show and asked about this tune that we had played with a bit a year ago. He said I should bring it back. I was never crazy about how it came out, but I liked a couple of verses. Those two happened to fall around Christmas." Listen to it below:
