"I like LA in small doses. It took me a long time to enjoy being here in any shape or form, simply because I had a fear of what LA would be before I came here and that was the idea I think a lot of people have of LA - which is the kind of plastic, Hollywood, 'nothing's real.' ...But the more I come back, the more I discover that it really is so much more than that... Being up here, somewhere like Topanga, it's like another world. This to me is heaven." The dialogue that Two Door Cinema Club
's new mini documentary, I Saw The World Today,
starts out with sets the tone for the rest of the film. Narrated by frontman Alex Trimble at first, the doc focuses heavily on the band's surroundings, which were clear inspirations for their latest LP, Gameshow.
"If you're in the studio and you're not feeling a particular take, it's so nice to take a couple of minutes and just come outside...And kind of forget about what you've been doing," guitarist Sam Halliday later adds.
The film is chock full of gorgeous west coast shots - muted pastel colors, the trio in a fairy light-decorated studio, and lots
of driving (welcome to LA). Getting to see the making of their latest singles "Are We Ready? (Wreck)" and "Bad Decisions," is interesting, and whether you're a casual Two Door listener watching merely for entertainment or a die-hard fan watching for a look into the band's personal life, I Saw The World Today
is a real treat.
