As much as I love visiting the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's physical location in Cleveland (it's a smorgasbord of music memorabilia that is simply can't miss for any music fans), each year the induction process for the canon of great rock & roll drives me f***ing bonkers. Rush was ignored for years. Joy Division and New Order are probably never getting in. I'll have a heart attack if Sonic Youth ever even makes the nomination short list.. The Smiths have never been inducted. That said, The Smiths made the list of potential nominees this year but they didn't get in. You know who did make it in? F***ing Steve Miller. Not the Steve Miller Band. Steve Miller. Arguably the most important alternative band of the 1980s lost to the most obnoxious dad rock act imaginable (and I say this as someone who loves dad rock). That said, we're happy to see Cheap Trick finally get their due as well as N.W.A. and Deep Purple.
