The first single off St. Vincent's
eponymously titled album of the mother effing year finally gets a video. St. Vincent
broke Annie Clarke through the barrier between beloved indie composer and mainstream queen of shredding.
The video for "Birth In Reverse" is all parts strange Vincent. From Clarke's fine physical precision, and voyeuristic gaze, to a glorious back lit, smoked out, hair metal scene showcasing the phenomenon that is Clarke hands on a guitar. Tthe video play like a highly produced fashion shoot: stark funk, presented via a Power Point presentation by Helmut Lang. Including the dramatic smoke show solo, the video is a rare accomplishment of oddly digestible disharmonic fun.
