came back with a bang this year, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 with their first full album in 8 years, Hardwired... To Self-Destruct
. With three singles leading up to the album, a normal approach might have been two or three highly promoted music videos. But Metallica doesn't take the normal approach too often, do they? No, they do things big - really big. They made the expected three videos to go with the singles in the months leading up to the release date, and then put out another 10 videos just before the release. Yes, that's a video for every single song
on the album, as well as one for the bonus track "Lords of Summer." Fans of the metal legends everywhere rejoice, Metallica basically made you a visual album. Check out the music video for lead track and single "Hardwired" right below.
Thankfully, Baeble has put together the full collection. All 12 music videos are available through Baeble's video platform
. Metallica's sound on the album does seem to be a little tamer than usual, but they're still kicking and the videos don't prove otherwise. Most of the Hardwired... To Self-Destruct
videos revolve around the band themselves, who thrash through their high-octane jams with a touch of youthful enthusiasm. The few videos that have narratives other than the band playing are interesting and pretty intense to say the least.
"Confusion" explores the duality of a veteran's life, moving from the trying experiences of war and the idea that everyday life after returning can be just as distressing at times. "Here Comes Revenge" is a creepy animated narrative with hollow-eyed, haunting animal illustrations. And "Am I Savage" shows a man explosively, and pretty comically, revolting against the mundanity of his clean-cut family and professional life. The full music video collection is interesting to say the least, and good for anyone from a Metallica beginner to weathered fans. Make sure to check out all of the Hardwired... To Self-Destruct
videos in HERE
, and never stop head-banging.
