Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre recently gave the beloved hit musical Rent
a makeover to better represent the demographic of New York City's East Village in today's world. The traditional themes of artistic integrity vs. "selling out", homophobia, drug addiction, love and relationships have all been replaced with more modern struggles, like Twitter character counts and trying to get your Dad to give you a job. Neighborhood joints like the Life Cafe have been replaced with Chase Bank and Starbucks. And the songs have been given a nice cultural freshening. Take a look.
"If Jonathan Larson were alive, he would DEFINITELY be happy about this."
But seriously, I really want "Seasons Of Scrubs" for my iPod.
