The 10 Worst Songs We Secretly Loved in 2017

We all love terrible songs. When I say terrible, I mean just audible and failing miserably in their attempts at being anything else. However, a song can be atrocious and we will still love it, why? Simply because trashy songs are catchy. They have hooks and beats that seem to sink deep into our subconscious, making us dream in these tunes and eventually grow to love their appalling composition. 2017 has been a year where such songs have infiltrated our sound waves and made their way into our lives and never let us live them down. So here is a compilation of some utterly ridiculous tracks from this year and just how they've managed to go from bad to addictive status in a matter of one (maybe two) listens.

    1. Taylor Swift - "Look What You Made Me Do"

Despite Taylor's terrible new album Reputation, her single was the tiniest bit better, wasn't it? The melody kind of becomes...good. It was stuck in my head for weeks, that hook over and over again until one day it snapped and I thought, "hang on, this song is actually alright!" Everyone has rated it as the absolute worst song of the year, but come on guys let's be honest, we've secretly loved it the whole time. Right...?

    2. Iggy Azalea - "Mo Bounce"

Yes, it is literally those two words repeated for the majority of the song, but it's damn catchy! Its beat is also bouncey and that's all you want to do when you hear it -- bounce, bounce, bounce. We still acknowledge the ridiculous production value and the simplistic rap style as nothing close to musical genius, but we can still enjoy it for what it is; which is a song to work on your bouncing booty moves.

    3. Migos ft. Lil Uzi Vert - "Bad and Boujee"

This kind of rap seems to be infiltrating the whole hip hop scene, and it's because it's weird and simply fun to listen to. The lyrics are nowhere near poetic, nor are they groundbreaking in any way, but they're entertaining and that's all we want sometimes! When we're stressed and need something to distract us this is what we turn to, ridiculous beats to give us that little sense of relief. There's no harm is enjoying a silly little rap song! Plus, it clearly made an impact on the world. It is completely inescapable.

    4. Will Smith - "Get Lit"

So this track is a bit weird, it's got a lot of stuff happening and is a bit confusing for most of it. However, its build ups and pretty heavy drops are so much fun! You can't really sing along, as I'm not too sure what he's saying for most of it, but its definitely easy to dance to due to its sleazy club vibe. It has caught our attention and continued to stick!

    5. The Chainsmokers - "Paris"

This track has quite a dividing effect on its listeners -- some absolutely love it and others detest it with every core of their being. I like to think it's a unique track that sits in the serene place in between both worlds. It has lovable aspects (which we love, love, love) and it has cheesy bits that can make you gag, but we overlook those for the sake of our guilty indulgence.

    6. Demi Lovato - "Sorry Not Sorry"

We love Demi and we love this not so lovable track. It's got all the aspects we love to hate about modern pop music, the crazy vocals on top of some pretty basic production, but it's so addictive we just need more and more of that chorus. We're sorry, not sorry for loving this song.

    7. Jax Jones ft. RAYE - "You Don't Know Me"

Jax Jones, you've got us with this one! It's an absolute banger in every way a banger bangs. Who hasn't played this to get pumped up before a night out? It's got everything we want, simple repetitive lyrics, boppy electronic beats and some heavy drops for those dedicated dancers out there, a winner all round.

    8. Machine Gun Kelly & Camila Cabello - "Bad Things"

It's a basic song, we've heard it before many times, but it's got the elements that keep us coming back for more. The collaboration is nice and perfect for anyone who loves a good duet (ehm, me). It's also got that sexy silky thing going on which Camila does so well! Yes it's nothing exciting or exhilarating but it's an easy listen and keeps the ears busy when boredom becomes a bit too much.

    9. Little Mix ft. Stormzy - "Power"

It's big and bad and outrageous. The feature from Stormzy is pretty bad, but the vocals from Little Mix is the real star of the track. They're loud and proud and we love it. The whole thing just makes me want to scream and shout "I've got the power" even if I really don't and I'm just sitting in my room. But the fact it makes me feel that way just proves it's a powerful song and not worth feeling guilty about loving it.

    10. Katy Perry ft. Nicki Minaj - "Swish Swish"

Again, typically not a great song, but it's fun just like our good gal pal Katy. Plus it has Nicki Minaj and she makes everything lively. The whispering "swish swish bish" is so fun to sing, especially with those faded synths behind it. It's one of those tracks that gets stuck in your head and you just can't shake it out. If the song doesn't do it for you, the video will swing you round. It's weird, quirky and a little violent. It literally has something for everyone!
