Metronomy's newest video "Hang Me Out To Dry," the latest from their album Summer 08 to receive a video, is a classic breakup story. The nocturnal indie pop track, features a duet of male and female voices recapping moments from a relationship, which is now in the past. Through the two competing voices, an image of the relationship is built out of these anecdotes. This is paired with a chorus by the female voice, performed by Swedish singer Robyn, who recognizes the power he has over her, something explored in many of these relationship stories present in the verses. The dark synth sounds backing the track hint to the doomed nature of this relationship with their foreboding tone.

The video expands on this idea of the relationship and features a woman driving a car, mirroring the metaphor in the lyrics of the chorus about being taken for a ride. As she drives, the chrome exterior of the car reflects moments of happiness from this doomed relationship. While in the song the female voice tells her partner he is "behind the wheel," in the video it is she who drives the car, showing that she has regained agency and control of her life. This is punctuated further at the end of the video, where she destroys the car, first with a crowbar and then with fire.
