It seems as though The Knife's
announcement of their first full length album in nearly seven years, Shaking The Habitual
, was the biggest news in music this week. The duo of Swedish siblings unveiled the news with a menacingly dramatic video that looked like an undergrad's creative cinema project brandished with the following description:
Music can be so meaningless.
We had to find lust.
We asked our friends and lovers to help us.
It's been seven years since Silent Shout
, but that doesn't necessarily mean we haven't been hearing fresh takes of the group's tunes. To celebrate the April release of Shaking The Habitual
, let's look back at some of the best covers of The Knife's classic material.
Jose Gonzalez - "Heartbeats"

opening track was made famous by the most amazing commercial ever
First Aid Kit - "When I Grow Up" (Fever Ray Cover)
While it's not a cover of The Knife per se, it is of Fever Ray, which the solo project of Karin Dreijer Andersson, aka one half of The Knife.
Ellie Goulding - "Heartbeats"
Ellie's voice sounds pretty swell in her own rendition of "Heartbeats."
Lykee Li - "Silent Shout" (Live at Lollapalooza 2011)
SHAKY CAM ALERT! But the intro is divine with percussive chaos.
Royal Teeth - "Heartbeats"
We met these guys back at CMJ, and their leading lady does a damn good Karin.
