We've heard more than a few Christmas themed songs recently. Some were plain old fun and some were quite sad, but they were all original songs. It seemed that no one wanted to touch the yule-tide standards, lest they be mentioned in the same breath as Michael Buble or Neil Diamond. That is until Blackbells got their hands on "The Bells Of Christmas," but this ain't Old Blue Eyes' version.

The band gives the Christmas classic a dark tinge by adding moody, reverbed, Western infused electric riffs or an ominous acoustic guitar. The chorus is uplifting and balances out the verses' somber tone. Singer Ben Rice's delivery make you question exactly what kind of "season of love" this really is. If you want to get into the Christmas mood, listen to Blackbells' version of "The Bells Of Christmas" below and check them out live on 12/23 at the Mercury Lounge.
