New Music Video: The Roots

The Roots latest video for the song "Tip the Scale" is short but effective. In less than three minutes, we get a slow-mo black and white glimpse at the cheerless and inevitable reality of inner city pressure. The video begins with a clock ticking, and a manifesto. It reads: "undun is the story of this kid who becomes criminal, he wasn't born criminal". We see poverty, drug use, metaphorical "soldiers on the street with eighth-grade diplomas". Following a sweatshirt hooded figure through the streets as a bass drum kicks, violin strengthens, and a breakable keyboard tremor wafts throughout—the music here is the only enlightenment.

More videos from the album are set to appear every Tuesday at 12:06 p.m. leading to the album's release. Click if you dare to view the similarly stark clip for "Make My."

undun is out 12/6 via Def Jam.
