It's no secret that Russian punk-rock collective Pussy Riot actively fight against oppression; tackling issues of autocracy, sexism, and LGBTQ rights. Just a couple of weeks ago, they went to Trump Tower and protested the imprisonment of Ukranian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and Ukranian activist Olexandr Kolchenko. Now, they're at it again with their new track "Police State," which includes an accompanying video.

The video falls on the anniversary of the 2016 US Presidential election and centennial of the 1917 Russian Revolution. It stars Chloe Sevigny as a tyrannical police officer who smashes toys with a baton. Children are strapped to chairs wearing ski-masks as they watch footage of Trump and Putin shaking hands. The video's dismal nature juxtaposes the song's buoyant beat.

In a statement, the group's Nadya Tolokonnikova denounces "autocratic, conservative, right-wing leaders" who are "spreading around the world like a disease." She continues, "Soviet dissidents were fighting against one of the most oppressive governments on the planet and shared their own D.I.Y. magazines (samizdat) via secret networks. Labor union leaders and civil rights activists were dying for their beliefs in the U.S. And it actually did make our world a better place."

They are emboldening their listeners, letting them know that actions are necessary in changing destructive systems.
