Hell yeah, there's progress happening! And no, I'm not talking about making headway with my Netflix list.
History-changing progress. Progress that calls for some celebration and some subtle laughter in Robert Marshall's face (he's offensive and discriminatory, so the laughing's justified). Democrat Danica Roem has defeated the self-proclaimed "chief homophobe" for the seat in Virginia's House of Delegates, making her the first openly transgender official in the state's history.
This is one bad-ass chick. And not just because of her promising policy proposals. She's also a vocalist for the thrash metal band, Cab Ride Home which released its debut album Crash The Gate in April. This musician/activist is really raising the bar for bad-assery.
Who says you can't be an energetic metal headbanger and progressive politician?
She told Noisey earlier this year, "Just because I sing in a heavy metal band while spinning my head in circles and getting paid to do it, why can't I run for government...why would I have to change who I am in order to run for government? I've already had to go through transformative change."
Transformative change, that's right. We're experiencing that transformative change right by her side.
