It would probably be impossible to get homesick at space camp when listening to the sharp indie rock of Brooklyn band Spacecamp. Their first single, "Miko D.T.B." is now streaming (and available for free download). "Miko D.T.B" is off of their debut EP, Alibi, set for release November 22nd via Modern Records.
The three band members met while performing as Adam Green's backing band in 2008. Later that year while in Berlin, the guys met Dev Hynes (better known as Lightspeed Champion or Blood Orange) where he asked the band to record nearly all of the music for his second album, Life Is Sweet! Nice to Meet You. Shortly after that, the band invited James Pollis to drum and complete the lineup. Clearly at an advantage on their own, the track is multiflavored, launching into a leading bassline, accentuated next by flashy guitar spasms. The chorus slows a bit into a digestible format, hinting decisively at a New Pornographers-like camaraderie, due to the female backing vocals. Impeccably tight drumming throughout and high-hitting keys bring the song all the way around.
