Late Night: St. Vincent

Last night, St. Vincent blistered into Jimmy Fallon's studio to perform a mean cover of The Pop Group's debut hit "She is Beyond Good and Evil." Encapsulating the legendary Bristol band's hot-headed character, Annie Clark positively punished those imploding, introverted riffs. Spastic and wide-eyed, the control of her unforgettable voice can evidently be inflamed to accommodate punk music. Her strong emotive repetition of the lyrics "My love was born on a ray of sound" surely should have had the audience behind her more than barely moving and casually tapping their hands. This is wild stuff! Annie and her band shredded the song to bits the entire way through; at the end she throws away her pick and takes to bludgeoning her guitar.

Grab her killer album Strange Mercy out on 4AD now.
