Before the Storm: The Weeknd at Paradise Theater

Last Saturday, indie aficionados loaded onto the 4 and D trains, and Bronx natives trekked down Grand Concourse to see The Weeknd do his thing on the vintage stage of the Paradise Theatre. Remember all that business about how The Weeknd's Abel Tesfaye was camera shy and full of stage fright? What nonsense! With a full band behind him and a multitude of balloons floating atop the crowd, Tesfaye appeared extremely confident, crooning and gyrating all the way through a set that featured the greatest hits from his mixtape trilogy, Trilogy. "It's about to get sexy," Tesfaye yipped before busting into "The Party and the After Party." It depends what your idea of sexy is, but believe me, the majority of the Paradise crowd definitely agreed with the statement. The show ended up highlighting The Weeknd's more anarchic tendencies rather than his uber-emotional ones, and he truly had the Bronx in the palm of his hand for the whole night. So much for lacking stage presence.

Check out some pictures from the show below.
