Damon Albarn, most famous as the real musician behind the fictional characters in Gorillaz and previously as the voice of Blur, announced in an interview with that he is not only working on the followup to Plastic Beach, but also has been working on material with Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and afrobeat drummer Tony Allen on material for an as yet unnamed new project. On top of all this, he plans on doing another album with his other Tony Allen collab, The Good, The Bad & The Queen.

Albarn describes the next Gorillaz album, which is being recorded in a mobile studio while the group is touring the States, as a "tour diary" and "love letter to America," while he promises a heavily African-influenced sound on the Flea/Tony Allen collab, noting astutely that "Flea of course is an anagram for Fela." (perhaps a nod to the music of Fela Kuti). The third album, with the Good, The Bad & The Queen, is still seemingly in the early planning stages, with no definite details announced.

To say the least, Albarn seems to be keeping himself busy. In terms of currently available output, the next leg of the Gorillaz Plastic Beach world tour takes the group through Europe, but Americans who missed it can settle for Albarn's praise for their country ("a great place to be") and countrymen ("the shows have been very special") and the album, which is out now. -peter menniti
