Beyoncé famously broke the internet late last year when she dropped an album unannounced in the middle of the night. BEYONCÉ
, 2013's surprise visual album, was released digitally on iTunes with zero advance promotion save a single trailer on Bey's Instagram account just before the release. The record became the fastest selling record in iTunes history, selling upwards of 800,000 copies worldwide in the space of a week. The release completely changed industry standards, and sparked a surprise album trend (Less successful efforts include U2's surprise album
, which set equally substantial records for most deleted record of all time).
Rumors flew around Twitter this weekend after this image was leaked:
According to Vulture
, who launched somewhat of an investigation, the photo seems pretty legitimate. The only red flag seems to be the release date. The digital release date is set for Friday November 14th, but the physical copy is due out Monday November 25th — which is weird, because the 25th is a Tuesday. Typo or hoax? Yoncé's team has yet to comment.
What we do know is that the track list, which includes Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Justin Timberlake, seems to check out. "DONK," featuring Nicki Minaj, was registered with ASCAP by Beyoncé a few weeks ago, as is "Cherry," set to feature Rihanna. If the little birdie is right, then the physical album will be a complete collection of tracks and music videos from BEYONCÉ
and the rumored BEYONCÉ Vol. 2
. If the leak is legit, then no doubt heads are rolling at Parkwood, and chances are the release will undergo some serious changes now that the surprise has been spoiled.
