is known for her extravagant videos. Hey, the slang word "extra" was basically made just for her. Björk knows no such thing as basic. What is this low-budget video you speak of? She will have none of it, thank you.
The videos she releases are either super creepy ("Hunter") or super beautiful ("Notget"). A lot of times they're both, and after watching the trailer for the latest video to come, it looks like "Utopia" is going to be the latter.
"Utopia" is the title track off of Björk's new album, out just last week. Judging by the 28-second trailer for its accompanying video, she is quite literally taking us into a utopia. Her
utopia, to be specific. It starts out showing more of the landscape - I personally thought it was Whoville from Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas
for a second. That's probably because we decorated the office with Christmas lights and trees today.
Anyway, as it zooms in, you slowly start to realize that you are in fact not
in Whoville, and Björk is actually strategically placed to look like one of the flowers growing out of the ground. Everything's warm and pink, and there are little creatures crawling around. The costume design seems more detailed and overwhelming than ever. The flower on the singer's chest sort of looks like her heart, but also a different lady part? There's an exotic flute player. Pearls! There's pearls everywhere. And oh my god, just you wait until Björk opens her eyes. Suddenly it feels like I'm watching a horror film and I won't be able to fall asleep tonight unless I FaceTime my mom and ask her to read me the funniest internet memes she stumbled upon this week.
This teaser looks like a doozy. There's no release date for the full version yet, but I'm sure it will be soon. Hopefully not too
soon though, because I need some time to reset my brain after watching this. Utopia
is out now.
