founder, Jeff Antebi, came up with an idea nearly a decade ago to gather up his favorite musicians and pair them with contemporary artists to create original children's stories for a benefit project. The 350-page book is called Stories By Ways & Means
and the proceeds will raise funds for three education-based nonprofits: Pencils of Promise, Room to Read, and 826 National.
The book includes stories from some of our favorite musicians such as Justin Vernon, Nick Cave, Laura Marling, Tom Waits, Devendra Banhart, The Pixie's Frank Black, Kathleen Hana, Del The Funky and many, many more. And it gets better - there are also a series of promo videos with narration by Danny Devito, Nick Offerman, Joey Bada$$, King Krule, Lizzo, Zach Galifianakis and others.
Yes, the children's stories in this book project are to benefit children and promote and raise funds for children's literacy programs around the world. But I wouldn't read these to your five-year-old niece at bedtime as the stories include "outre art, weird images, graphic display of nasty stuff and cuss words." These stories are just for the big kids in all of us.
