In addition to running UK-based electronic music label Hot Flush Recordings, Paul Rose produces deep, experimental dubstep/two-step garage under the moniker Scuba. It hasn't got the loud bass wobbles you might immediately think of when you think "dubstep," but his tunes have plenty to offer in the way of laid-back grooves, chilled melodies, and deep, entrancing basslines.
Scuba recently picked up some stateside exposure courtesy of NPR, who featured his song "Before (After)" as today's song of the day. The tune is his own remix of his previously-released tune "Before." Both tunes are out now, the remix as part of Triangulation (Interpretations), a remix album of tunes from his album Triangulation. The original version of "Before," which came out with the original version of Triangulation, has an accompanying mesmirizing video you can watch below.
Scuba is mostly gigging in the UK and continental Europe, but he will be making a stop right here in NYC for a New Year's Eve show. -peter menniti
