Today the internet crashed our brains with the news that Kanye West
would be playing the Bowery Ballroom tonight. Such a small venue for a stadium status rapper? Guests all but guaranteed, anywhere from Nicki Minaj (blah) to Jay-Z (HOVVV!)? Performing his entire 2010 opus
? It seemed like a no-brainer, until tickets were a ridiculous $100 a pop and the whole thing sold out before it even went on sale. How many tickets were they actually selling?
The price tag was enough to keep most casual fans away, and the strict rules on resale probably edged out a few amateur scalpers. But the fact remains that this SUCKS. Don't taunt the public with a Ticketmaster purchase for fifty people. It's such a bummer for the guy who just wants to see his favorite narcissistic rapper inflate his ego with a power-washer.
And the $100? Supply and demand I suppose, but it still seems a little steep. Ticketmaster hasn't exactly been private about their intentions to charge more and more for tickets. I'd like to see a breakdown of that price and who gets how much. Lefsetz
