what happened this weekend?

It's Thanksgiving week in America, which means you probably have to do some traveling to spend quality time with the fam. Luckily, we have a great soundtrack for all (escaping from) family gatherings, not to mention an important series of end-of-the-year questions for pondering. The American Music Awards provided plenty more reasons for us to jump off of a bridge, Wavves' Nathan Williams ran into a bit of trouble with the law in Germany, and Kanye begins his true reign.

    The 2010 American Music Awards

Felt more like the 2012 edition. AMERICA HAS SPOKEN. Katy Perry can't sing but still can shoot fireworks on National TV and get applause?, Justin Bieber is the best we have to offer (Artist Of The Year), Muse wins Favorite Alternative Act (instead of Vampire Weekend or the true winner of the year, Phoenix), and shotgun sales rose 50% in the music community. You can have mine when I'm done with (gunshot). [via]

Nathan Williams was (briefly) arrested by German officials for possession of a bag of marijuana.

"We got stopped at a roadside check and I had six bags in the car and they only found one [Ed. note: HAHAHAHAAHHA]-- the f*cking dogs never work. I bet it's high from all the fumes. Anyways, they put me in a cell which was a little nerve-wracking. More so because I was an American in a German jail and not because I have long gay hair. I did wrestle for four years in high school, so I could have f*cked somebody up. So yeah, then I gave 'em 200 Euro and walked out... not a terrible deal. And now I'm getting high again."

So everything is right with (some of) the world? Whew. Whew?

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is out today.

The Kanye-helmed behemoth made it's way to store shelves across America this morning following leaks, G.O.O.D. Fridays, whispers and boasts and arguments about "best of the year" and/or "best in a long time". Not to mention a perfect 10.0 from the oft too-weighted Pitchfork (the first album/non re-issue to do so since 2002's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot), the combination of hype and confirmation of said hype all but ensures a huge first week of sales. But can Kanye do the fabled million in his first week? Is it even possible anymore?

Monday is a little easier on the eyes when it's more like Wednesday and-a-half in work days. No sleep 'till Turkey. -joe puglisi
