It's a good thing Willow
and Jaden Smith love themselves and each other so much, because I think I speak for most people when I say that they seem like insufferable, self-indulgent, and overall exhausting people to be around. They're like that sheltered friend you had in high school who went to college, did too many hallucinogenics, and came back feeling really in touch with him/herself, but totally unable to handle small talk or shoelaces anymore. Anyway, the two Smiths spoke to the New York Times
this week, in a hard hittinginterview
that proves they are mentally incapable of living regular pampered lives like regular celebrity children.
My feelings toward these kids have been on such an emotional roller coaster lately. One minute I think Jaden's ridiculous tweeting and witchcraft experimentation is charmingly stupid, like a cartoon, but five minutes later his shitty rap and weird mustache just make me frustrated and tired. (Willow has been a pretty consistent bore, so maybe I should leave her out of this.) Regardless, this family has made the American experience in 2014 a lot more stressful than it needs to be and frankly, I don't know how much more my poor old heart can take.
Anyway, the interview featured statements from both Smith kids questioning school, the existence of time, and the all-knowing nature of babies. It seems really irrational to me, but according them that conclusion can be attributed to my ever-increasing distance from infancy. Here are some of the most (self-)important quotes from the pair, who both released music this week.
On being creative:
: Honestly, were just trying to make music that we think is cool. We don't think a lot of the music out there is that cool. So we make our own music. We don't have any song that we like to listen to on the P.C.H. by any other artist, you know?
: Thats what I do with novels. There're no novels that I like to read so I write my own novels, and then I read them again, and its the best thing.
On being THE BEST
: Me and Jaden just figured out that our voices sound like chocolate together. As good as chocolate tastes, it sounds that good.
: It's proven that how time moves for you depends on where you are in the universe. Its relative to beings and other places. But on the level of being here on earth, if you are aware in a moment, one second can last a year. And if you are unaware, your whole childhood, your whole life can pass by in six seconds. But it's also such a thing that you can get lost in.
: Because living.

But you can only listen to Jaden by downloading his new app Jaden Experience
, which is essentially iTunes minus everyone that isn't Jaden Smith.
